The Fitspirational Blonde
Lately I’ve been noticing that I don’t seem to be eating all of the fruit and veggies that I purchase before they go bad.
So, to switch things up (and save a bit of money since I’m on a college girl budget) last week I didn’t buy as much produce as I usually would.
My plan totally worked, I actually ran out of fruit and veggies early- and not even a single strawberry went to waste!
The downside however, is I had to make another mini-trip to the store today to stock up on what I ran out of.
I secretly love grocery shopping so I didn’t mind 🙂
Try this out guys! Save money by buying produce in smaller portions.
I’m calling this beauty “classy cornbread” because of the adorable pink flowers I tossed in. My boyfriend Bryan picked them for me, I just couldn’t resist 🙂
Plus, I’m really into food-ography lately so it was perfect!
Seriously, so delicious! Bryan and I made cornbread for my best friend and I’s “Southern Style Hangout” yesterday. It was a big hit, and an awesome snack.
I’m so head-over-heels excited- my best friend Allie and I are throwing a “Southern Style Party”.
What is that you ask? Well, we made it up so we’re kind of throwing ideas together as we go along. Let me tell you, we’re having a blast along the way! A few of our close friends are getting together, and it’s going to be pretty fabulous.
My boyfriend Bryan is a true southern boy from North Carolina, so he’s giving us Cali girls some ideas too 🙂
So far, our southern food list includes:
- Steaks marinated in Allie’s Grandma’s Whisky Marinade (for the non-vegetarians of course)
- Scalloped potatoes
- SWEET TEA in mason jars if I can find some (holla if you watch Duck Dynasty!)
- Corn Bread (duh, that’s a must)
- A delicious salad (I don’t think that’s southern… but I have to eat at this thing too… you know me, got to throw some health in there somewhere! There aren’t very many southern vegetarian foods which I learned the hard way when he flew me out to North Carolina to visit his family- they kept wanting to feed me bacon and steak. SO if Bryan touches my salad, I’m making that count as a Southern salad.)
- Grilled Corn (still in the husks)
Not sure what else we’ll come up with, but let me tell you I’ve got my cowgirl boots and country music ready!
Pictures to come after the party tonight 🙂
This is a delicious high anti-oxident smoothie! I used only red fruits and berries, and it came out great.
Red apple slices
Blend, swirl and drink!
Just had a sleepover at my best friends house and I couldn’t resist blogging this adorable coffee cup!!
I am so in love with cute dishes and cups. When I get my own apartment one day- I’ll probably have cabinets and cabinets full of dishes 🙂
I’m out to lunch with my best friend at this adorable new cafe that just opened up in beautiful San Diego. We both ordered water at lunch, which inspired this post!
3 reasons why you should choose water over soda at a restaurant:
1.) Price- If you’re constantly ordering soft drinks when you dine out, you’re basically spending money to deteriorate your health. Save yourself the $2.75 glass of sugary cavaties, and stick with pure water!
2.) Lemon water- Adding a lemon to your water has so many health benefits. Mindbodygreen.com says it has a great source of vitamin C, balances your PH levels, aids weight loss because it balances your Alkaline levels. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be improving my health at lunch then deteriorating it.
3.)Hydration- Did you know soda actually dehydrates your body? When you drink soda, it tricks your body into thinking it wants salty foods. Thus, you’ll be more likely to order an unhealthy option on the menu. Also, a lot of the time when you think you’re hungry- you’re actually just dehydrated. By drinking water before every meal, you’ll eat less.
Choose water over soda!
What I love about having my own health blog, is I get to be as honest as I want. There are HUNDREDS of blogs out there that will pretend baking/cooking is so easy and that they never make any mistakes… but I’m definitely not one of them.
I’m here to blog about the good, the bad and the things I catch on fire… and let me tell you I almost just burnt my house down attempting to make home made candied pecans!
I’m not really sure what I did wrong to tell you the truth, I left them in the oven for the exact amount of time directed, used the same ingredients as the recipe- only I substituted brown sugar for regular cane sugar.
Am I going to give up? NO WAY!
Off to the store to buy some more raw pecans, and try a different candied pecan recipe.
As they say, “what doesn’t burn your house down, makes you buy a fire extinguisher.”
Locket and I are on the way back from a long run around the San Diego bay (such a relaxing way to exercise), and on the way home she decided she was a parrot. By the look of that tongue, it might be time for some all-natural doggie cookies when we get home!
I’m hungry too, I can already hear that summer sweet salad I made calling my name 🙂
Sorry… I’m not sorry for this half-eaten hummus picture!
I didn’t even think of snapping a picture before my best friend and I practically devoured it in 5 minutes flat.
Yep it was THAT good.
This is a bit more of an easier way to make hummus. Great for a mid-day snack and it’s the perfect compliment to some flat bread poppyseed chips or even some healthy carrots 🙂
Save yourself some money and time, and make a batch of this zesty deliciousness at home!
