A significant amount of calories are cut because a tortilla is substituted for two slices of bread. If you’re careful with the ingredients, you can cut 1/2 the calories out of a regular lunch.

So fast, so easy, and tastes good cold! This is a great lunch idea to bring with you to college or work 🙂

Raspberry Waffle Protein Mini-Breakfast

In a mad dash out the door this morning on the way to my hair appointment, I threw together this delicious waffle raspberry combo! I was so thankful that I made extra protein waffles last week and froze them!

Having some extra pre-prepared meals on hand definitely comes in handy with a busy schedule. If it wasn’t for my excess of protein waffles, I would have only had a fruit smoothie for breakfast.

My metabolism is too high to survive off of a fruit smoothie for more then a couple hours, so this protein waffle was really a life saver!

Get out of your comfort zone- Disney Fitspiration!

I was watching Mulan this morning while making my morning fruit smoothies, and I totally got inspired by this scene!

If Mulan can climb a pole with two huge penny looking weights, we can DEFINITELY push ourselves out of our comfort zones on the next few reps of push ups!

Getting out of your comfort zone is how you’ll start seeing changes in your body. Pushing yourself beyond what your body is used to, is how the tone and definition will begin to appear. If you never try anything new, and always stick to your same routines, chances are- your body will stay the same too.

Want to see change? Work for it.

Artichoke Adventures

Did you know that Artichokes are one of the WORLD’S most healthiest foods?

YES! But Why?

  • REALLY high in anti-oxidants
  • Cancer fighting properties
  • Really good for the liver *Also known for as a hangover treatment for you drinkers out there!*
  • Reduces cholesterol
  • Really high in Fiber (which helps with digestion)

If you had asked me a year ago to eat this weird flowery looking cactus shaped vegetable… I would have looked at you like you were crazy.

Now that my taste buds are developing, I tried them for the first time about a year ago and I AM IN LOVE WITH THEM!

If you’ve never tried an artichoke before, I highly recommend it!

MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS BEFORE YOU TRY AND EAT ONE! They’re complicated to eat, but totally worth the extra effort.

How to eat an artichoke:

After you’ve steamed or boiled it for 25-35 minutes begin to eat.

  1. Pull off outer petals, one at a time
  2. Dip white fleshy end in melted butter or sauce. Tightly grip the other end of the petal. Place in mouth, dip side down, and pull through teeth to remove soft, pulpy, delicious portion of the petal. Discard remaining petal.
  3. With a knife or spoon, scrape out and discard the inedible fuzzy part (called the “choke”) covering the artichoke heart. The remaining bottom of the artichoke is the heart. Cut into pieces and dip into sauce to eat.
  4. I dip mine in a home made garlic sauce that I make myself with FRESH garlic. This not only adds to the flavors of the artichoke, it adds another entire health benefit from the fresh garlic!

Get out of your comfort zone, it’s no fun in there!

Marine Smoothie Explosion!!

My boyfriend Bryan is in the Marines- and even with his busy schedule,  he still finds time to make smoothies! He texted me this picture of his all natural green smoothie that exploded all over everything, and I couldn’t help but laugh and put it on my health blog.

Don’t forget to close the lids on your blenders everyone!

Be inspired by Bryan’s incredible ability to find time for smoothie making throughout his 11 hour work days in the Marines.

If he can wake up at 5am everyday, and still have time to eat healthy, you can eat healthy too!

Just had caffeine today for the first time in a LONG time and….

…I’M BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS!

After being addicted to caffeine for so long, and then giving it up cold turkey all at once- I decided to have a Caramel Macchiato today at Starbucks (as I type this post).

OH MY GOSH I can feel my blood sugar rising, I’m typing at 84987249874985 words a minute, and I feel like I have so much energy I could do a few laps of Kart Wheels around San Diego!

Not going to lie though, on top of that I feel really shaky and can kind of feel a head ache coming on.

Tomorrow, I’m anxious to see if I wake up craving caffeine since I had coffee today, or if I’ll wake up and not crave it at all. If I don’t crave it tomorrow, that means I’ll officially be over my caffeine addiction, which will be a BIG deal for me.

For now, off to do some Kart Wheels and Super-Speed-Blogging hahaha
