“The Scariest Moment is always right before you start” -Stephen King

I heard this quote and thought it was SO appropriate for my health blog!

If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be a vegetarian.

“Eating ONE hamburger every day can increase the death rate by 1/3” – Graham Hill

Throughout my many awesome years of health blogging, not to mention my entire 24 years of lifelong vegetarianism; one of the most common questions I get asked is, “Brittany, why would you possibly bother being vegetarian?”

Here are my 3 answers to that question-

Animal Cruelty

Did you know we raise 10 BILLION animals each year for meat? Out of those 10 billion- a majority of them are raised in factory farm conditions that we wouldn’t even consider for our own cats, dogs etc. If you’d like to learn more about this- Google these 3 words: “animal factory cruelty”. Spend ONE minute on Google images, and I guarantee you’ll give vegetarianism another thought.

Environmental

Meat causes more emissions than all transportation combined. Cars, trains, planes, boats- you name it.

Beef production uses 100 times more water then most vegetables do.

Increase in Meat Consumption

We as a society are eating TWICE as much meat as we did in the 50’s. What used to be a small side dish, is now the main course.
With the traditional Western diet, the average American consumes about double the protein her or his body needs.

Additionally, the main source of protein comes from animal products which are high in fat and saturated fat.

Stand against animal cruelty, help the environment, allow your body to be healthier, and live a longer life; being vegetarian is AWESOME.

I love spotting clever Fitspirational T-shirts!!

image

Once you begin your Fitspirational life, you’ll start to notice that there is Fitspiration EVERYWHERE you look!

I’m at the grocery store right now, buying all the fruit I need for the rest of this week’s morning fruit smoothies- and I spotted this clever shirt.

She must be a health blogger I thought 🙂

After I saw it, I just had to stop her and ask if I could snap a picture for my health blog. She was flattered, and even asked me for a link!

If you’re having a hard time finding Fitspiration, open your eyes- it’s all around you.

I may have gone a bit overboard on this morning’s fruit smoothie garnishes… But hey, the bigger the garnish the happier the tummy!

Today is my third day in a row adding veggies to my smoothies, and I’m loving every second of it.

Ingredients:
Pineapple
Strawberries
Peaches
Orange pineapple banana juice
Carrots
Ice

Blend and enjoy!

Don’t worry, to my surprise, I couldn’t even taste the carrots 🙂 Such a great way to sneak some extra nutrients into your day!

The Color Run- 5K!

20130608_080828

Running in The Color Run has been on my bucket list for 3 years! The moment I saw gifs of Pinks, Purples, Yellows and Blue neon colors flying through the air- I knew I HAD to be a part of it!

Since my boyfriend Bryan and I (he’s a Marine) have began to love working out and maintain our health lives together, we decided to run it as a team! There is not better feeling then getting fit and having the one you love right beside you encouraging you to push yourself even harder. When the Color Run finally came to San Diego, we both bought our running bibs, and counted down the days 🙂

Our team name was of course “The Fitspirational Blonde” (which was on the back of our custom made T-Shirts.)

The Front of our shirts said “Running towards our Happily Ever After!”

Details:

  • Distance- 5k (3.1 miles)
  • Location- Down Town San Diego (the streets were completely blocked off for the color runners, it was so surreal)
  • Time- 7am!
  • Cost- $50 per person, and color packets were an additional $3 per packet.

As you can see, we had THE TIME OF OUR LIVES. It was Bryan and I’s first ever run, and it was a perfect run to begin with. Not too long, not too expensive, and a good time was had by all. I definitely recommend you trying the color run when it comes to your city. Challenge yourself. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new. You’re not going to get any more in shape by watching races on TV, get up and participate!

Micronutrient food VS Macronutrient food

I just found out all foods can be divided into two catagories:

Micronutrient food- Vegetables, Fruits, Nuts, and Seeds

Macronutrient food- Everything else.

Now, think ahead to when you’re 80 years old. What would YOU rather build your foundation on?
