Restaurant tips: Choosing water over soda

I’m out to lunch with my best friend at this adorable new cafe that just opened up in beautiful San Diego. We both ordered water at lunch, which inspired this post!

3 reasons why you should choose water over soda at a restaurant:

1.) Price- If you’re constantly ordering soft drinks when you dine out, you’re basically spending money to deteriorate your health. Save yourself the $2.75 glass of sugary cavaties, and stick with pure water!

2.) Lemon water- Adding a lemon to your water has so many health benefits. Mindbodygreen.com says it has a great source of vitamin C, balances your PH levels, aids weight loss because it balances your Alkaline levels. I don’t know about you, but I’d much rather be improving my health at lunch then deteriorating it.

3.)Hydration- Did you know soda actually dehydrates your body? When you drink soda, it tricks your body into thinking it wants salty foods. Thus, you’ll be more likely to order an unhealthy option on the menu. Also, a lot of the time when you think you’re hungry- you’re actually just dehydrated. By drinking water before every meal, you’ll eat less.

Dwight is right ladies- lifting won’t make you huge…

As a huge fan of the office, I couldn’t go another minute without posting Dwight’s huge face on my health blog!

Lifting weights is NOT going to make you huge ladies. This is a common misconception that I get asked about quite often. If you’re on a bad diet, and you just can’t seem to keep your hands off Mr. Ben and Mr. Jerry (if you know what I mean *ehem ICECREAM ehem**.

If you balance out a healthy diet (with protein/fruits/veggies) with a solid workout plan, you’ll EARN your way to the body of your dreams! Lifting weights is NOT going to make you big, but lifting weights without training might. If you’re really worries about this, please message me and we’ll go over your exercise routine together. A good cardio mix with strengthening exercises and weights will actually lean you out.

Whats the worst that can happen? You might just end up with a fabulously it body. Oops 🙂

Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution: WEEK 4!!!!

I can’t believe I’ve made it to WEEK 4 of Jillian Michael’s Body Revolution!  Since I’ve been working out with her for 29 days now, I’m noticing my body really starting to change. The combination of working out every day, with eating really healthy throughout the weeks is REALLY starting to pay off. Not only do I look better, I FEEL better. Today I noticed my arm muscles are beginning to develop, and when I pick up something heavy I can see the definition beginning to appear! Healthy eating habits combined with this incredible 90 day workout video series feels GREAT.

Jillian’s Advice… I just can’t get enough.

She never tells you to skip meals, eat only 100 calories, or survive off of 1/4 of a carrot stick for the whole day.

Jillian is always up front about how important it is to EAT, but eat HEALTHY.

If you eat donuts 24/7, you’re going to start looking like a donut. If you eat salads, fruits and veggies; your body is going to start looking how you’ve always dreamed it would look.

ABS are made 80% in the kitchen and 20% in the gym.

EARN IT.

Packing in the protein- healthy eating-out tip!

Needless to say, I may be a slight Avocado addict. There’s about 4 grams of protein in each Avocado, so I like to get as much in there as I can without it spilling out my nose of course haha (Omgosh EW I don’t know why I just said that, I totally just got a gross visual of myself eating this sandwich with Avocado coming out my nose… EW!)

Anyway, adding vegetables to your meals when you’re eating out is a great way to sneak in some extra protein. I’ve added in a lot if extra Avocado to my grilled cheese, had it made on wheat bread instead of white (which also has more protein) and substituted a salad for the side of fries.

Vegetarians need to pack in the protein where ever they can, whenever they can!

Try it out- next time you go to a restaurant, add ONE vegetable to your meal. Whether it’s extra tomatoes on your salad, a side of asparagus to your main course or Avocados to your grilled cheese, just start with one.

Every vegetable you add to your diet, gets you one step closer to that fabulous healthy lifestyle you’ve been working so had for.

I got an awesome groupon (you all know you use them too) for a spa pedicure, so naturally I called up my best friend and made a day out of it!

Reading Shape magazine while waiting for then to dry. I always learn something new about health and fitness in this magazine.
